We have a winner!
Or 3 winners, to be precise. Thank you random number generator! Though I will say it is strangely terrible not to be able to send you all the books you want. What wonderful desires you have. I have a new reading list.
AndieD: Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day (which I am going to borrow from you)
Wendy: Making More Plants: The Science, Art, and Joy of Propogation (which I am sending you used because it is $250! Ha ha.)
Laura S: The Wind's Twelve Quarters
Please email me with your mailing addresses, and we will get these books on their way. Plus, I think there will be enough money left to do this again! Should I just pull from here, or should we redo the contest from the start? I can't think clearly.
Meanwhile, fish with brown butter. Also, shoes with brown butter. And cat with brown butter. I am planning to put brown butter on everything I own.
Have a lovely weekend.

My hubby loves this Greek pasta dish with brown butter...it practically makes him melt! What is it with brown butter?
ReplyDeleteI must confess that I do not eat fish and therefore neither to my girls (I do cook it for Hubby mind you) he eats tons of salmon. That is a huge area I am working on, some recipes that I will like and can incorporate as family meals.
Thanks Catherine for always coming up with great family meals.
$250.00?!?!
ReplyDelete?!
What the..
I think that must be some kind of mistake, right? Cuz that book really only costs $50.00. Normally.
?!
And I guess I'd better try me some browned butter now.
Woo hoo!!!
ReplyDeleteObviously, used is just fantastic. ($250 new? How insanely ridiculous is that? Are people really that grossed out by a book that has been in someone else's hands that they would pay 10 times the money for a new one?) I just wasn't sure if you could use your store credit on used stuff, which is why I took myself out of the drawing preemptively. So glad you ignored me.
Thanks so much!

I laughed at your desire to put brown butter on everything you own, because I've recently discovered the wonders of browned butter myself, via Browned-Butter frosing and Browned-Butter Rice Krispie Treats.
ReplyDeleteI think you should start the drawing over. I read the blog then went to search what book I would like and got so caught up I never came back to post. ....or picked a book for that matter.
ReplyDeleteCatherine, years ago you suggested "Ask Me" by Antje Damm. I bought a copy and bought about 10others for gifts. It seems that it's now out of print. I looked a few months ago online to try to find a copy for another gift, and had no luck. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteRedo the contest from the start!! I was offline when you did the original contest!
ReplyDeleteBrown butter shortbread cookies should be made and packed in school lunches at your house soon.
ReplyDeleteI vote on taking their names out and going with our previous requests.
ReplyDeleteBrown Butter Rice Krispie Treats!!! Mmmm. Brown Butter Shortbread Cookies!!! Mmmm.
ReplyDeleteAnd Teafortwo: I know. Ask Me is one of the loveliest books. Alas. But amazon seems to be selling a bunch of new copies through different marketplace sellers. Maybe you could stock up on a couple?

I say start the contest over, and make us do something for the freebie. I just loved reading everyone's parenting advice and book desires. And we should have to comment over at Disney, too. You give us so much every time you share a piece of yourself and a story about your family. It's the least we can do for you. As always, thanks. --Cathy K
ReplyDeleteAnything on the contest EXCEPT commenting over at Disney. That site hates me and hazes me ruthlessly.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a new comment-op here for those who missed out the first time around. :-)
Happy, Happy Spring!
I will be trying the fish soon. Just getting over the phobia of cooking fish. (not sure why I thought I could never do it) The book would be 'The Organic Gardener's Handbook of Natural Pest and Disease Control' (a rodale organic gardener book)
ReplyDeletePS - haven't bought store bread since Jan 30th!!! Thanks so much for the recipe.

How about start the contest over and have a theme? Fiction/non-fiction works about astronomy, gardening, food preparation, sewing and fabrics, car maintenance, sex, parenting, food eating, drinking, travel, animal husbandry, etc.? But please, please don't make us post on Disney. I can't figure out how to enter their iFortress.
ReplyDeleteSmokes, but you are a culinary genius, Catherine! Melted string cheese is divine!
ReplyDeleteJust chiming in to say start fresh for the contest, please.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I made 5 batches of instant oatmeal this morning in preparation for the camping trip this weekend. I tried it out on the family this morning to make sure they'd eat it before we left. Then I asked my husband how it compared to the packets and he said, "Like 10 times better!" So, thanks.
Gah! I missed all of this!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert. Lovely and thought provoking.
