Of course, you wouldn't want your kids illustrating reports of drunk fraternity antics or any truly gloomy situations, but some police blotter items really lend themselves to illustration. Here are a few the kids have snipped and drawn recently. You know, for Mother's Day. Because we're sentimental like that.
ha!
ReplyDeletemy absolute favorite is the rubber snake, I can picture it, too! Thanks for sharing. :) Are you ready for summer? I am making my summer bucket list right now. Cannot wait. Simply cannot.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! You know ellen degeneres has a feature about police blotters. You could send those.
ReplyDeleteLove this. The teacher in me is scheming to do this activity with my niece and nephew, and then reverse it and find crazy pictures for them to write police blotter stories for. The teacher in me does not like that I ended that last sentence with 'for'. Again.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious. I love it. It also makes me want to read the police blotter more often. Recently we had a funny one here in Ann Arbor. Campus police were called to respond after two male students got in an altercation (on a front porch, intoxicated) after an argument ensued about the relative merits of Tolkien vs. C.S. Lewis.
ReplyDeleteOh, I miss Amherst!
ReplyDeletecould i love this any more than i do? no, i could not.
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine
ReplyDeleteLong-time reader, first-time commenter. I love everything I've read of yours and I love the NY Times Morherlode blog. I've often thought that you would be a great contributor to Morherlode so I was thrilled to find your post there today. Beautifully and eloquently written!

That's so funny. I wish we had a small town paper with a police blotter available. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution doesn't have one, and I only really learned about that section of a paper when I went to college and lived with someone who read them religiously.
ReplyDeleteTeafortwo...try Creative Loafing--The Blotter...!

I know all about the CL, but those can be a little too salacious for my 9 year old and 6 year old. I try not to remind myself of all the crazies out there!
DeleteJust popped over to the NY Times Motherlode piece...loved it. Oh and the police blotter art...awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeletethat. is. AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteOh, my land. This is SO FANTASTIC. We have an awesome small town police blotter too, and I can't wait to convince my kids to illustrate it.
ReplyDeletewell. you do realize that there is a book in that, don't you?
ReplyDeleteI love this. Reminds me of the Readers Digest funny caption contests, but vice versa.
ReplyDeleteJust getting caught up with, you, Catherine, since Twitter and Pinterest and Facebook have been distracting me from blogs. This is so funny, I have tears in my eyes. Thanks for sharing!
