Wild Grape Jam Give-Away!!!

jam pot
Where are my manners? Seriously. I knew there was something off about that request yesterday, and it was this: I forgot to bribe you! With a jar of my gorgeous, glossy, fully foraged, poetically purple, grapetastic jam. That's right. Vote at Birds Eye, then enter your name here, right here in the comments, in a drawing to win a jar of the good stuff.

The voting happens here. Vote! And then vote again tomorrow. And the day after. etc.

You cannot do it from an iPhone. Birds Eye has this advice:
1. Go to www.facebook.com/BirdsEyeVegetables
2. If you have not already, please "like" the page in order to be able to vote
3. Click on the Share the Wonder Grant tab (right under the Birds Eye Facebook profile photo)
4. The page to appear will say "Vote for your favorite organization". ChopChop is the first video on the top left corner (it says "ChopChop"). Click on that video and the click the red voting button to vote.
You can vote once a day for a month, and whichever organization gets the most votes wins $20,000. I will do the drawing here on October 1st.

Now, I understand that a few things might give you pause.

Is it unsettling that it's decided by a facebook popularity contest?
Is it disturbing that I have to click that "allow access to all my personal information and private memories" button?
Aren't all the organizations worthy? (My God, they are--I practically voted for a different one until I remembered myself.)
Didn't we already enter another contest here, about the name of the blog, and you still lamely haven't figured that out yet?

I totally understand. But watch our video. Not just because I spent the better part of a million hours helping to make it. Not just because Ben and Birdy are both quoted in it and Birdy herself is actually in it. But also because it explains what we're trying to do.

Thanks for your patience, friends. And if you voted already, thank you so much.

xo Catherine

p.s. Favorite search terms that brought people here this week: "tape face," "2.5 year old knows how to play jenga," "you were rolling your tortilla boobs into a fancy burrito," which, by the way, I know one of you searched only to make me laugh. Which I did. Thank you.

  1. Hurray! Thanks for the reminder to vote again. Done and done. Also, yesterday was our inaugural baking of Fantastic Fearless Five-Minute Bread of this cooler season. Nice to be able to use the oven again. It's also nice to hear "Mama makes the best bread ever!"

  2. I'm not entering the giveaway, but I wanted to share that I just made ten jars of grape jam for the first time yesterday! Me!

  3. I voted today and will keep on doing it! We have so many gorgeous-smelling wild grapes on our street. I just don't have the fortitude to make jam with them. Hoping I can be lazy and get some of yours!

  7. It let me like them and watch the video then it keeps freezing up before I can vote! I will keep trying and Birdy's quote of, "not a permanent dislike" just made me smile.

Oh and wild grape jam makes my mouth water. I need to come stay with your for a while so I can learn! I can bribe you with a toddler who still lets you rock her sometimes. ;)

  8. Is it just me or is the link in today's post not working? Yesterday's link worked great and I used it to vote again today. We have LOVED our subscription to ChopChop. Thanks for another great recommendation and good luck in the contest!

  9. Yay! I've voted twice already. I love the idea of eating your wild grape jam! And, ahem, surely a nursing mother of a 6-week-old needs all the yummy goodness she can get?

  10. Thanks for the reminder to vote. I love the idea of having your grape jam on some warm homemade bread!

  11. I voted yesterday, and just voted again today. I would love to have some wild grape jam because there are no wild grapes where I live and I have no idea what that must taste like. Exciting!

  12. Good luck, Catherine and ChopChop! I voted for you. :)

  13. Yummy jam. Must vote.

  14. That video was strangely, unexpectedly inspirational. Made me feel sort of like feeding my kids vegetables was a political, social, environmental act.
And of course I loved Birdy and Ben's quotes. "Not a permanent dislike..." So insightful!

The fact that I had to "like" Bird's Eye to vote means their status updates show in my newsfeed, which is my reminder to vote. But reminders from you are infinitely more better. ;-)

  21. Ok, I made a Fakebook page. As in I made a Facebook page with a fake name. And then I voted. Does that count? Do you need to know my fake name for me to enter the jam drawing?I've never had wild grape jam!

Oh, I'd love the jam, but... I'm not a big fan of Facebook. Sorry! Too many people that I don't know/can't remember/don't want to be friends with but don't want to offend, etc etc.... Might you post your grape jam recipe??? (small voice) ;)

Voting now....and reminded of our awesome local organization.

Don't you want an excused to come to Ithaca?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jennifer LB9:13 AM

Never mind....too scary to "share my personal information" with Birdseye. I thought it was part of the whole facebook process but this seems extra creepy.

I still think you should come to Ithaca.

  27. I still cannot vote and now I am not sure I would want to share my personal info with Birds Eye anyway...so sorry about that! I did like them though and obviously they are all worthy causes.

    Good luck!

  35. I voted twice so far. Waiting for my first Chop Chop issue and I resubscribed to Brain, Child - any chance to read more of your wisdom (plus the other writers are so great!)I had let Brain, Child lapse bc I felt I always had so much to read, but I found my brain missed it. My fingers are crossed to win some jam - sounds heavenly! This weekend I am planning to make your Peachy Peach freezer jam (and of course add the almond flavoring :-). Have never done anything like it before - wish me luck!

  36. I voted two days in a row, so do I get two chances at that jar of deliciousness?? :)

  37. Voted! I am a real fan of your writing Catherine. Discovered you in Wondertime and have been following you here. I can't tell you how excited I am when I sit down to nurse and there is a new post I can read on the ol' smartphone. Many of your recipes have made their way into my repertoire. (Lentil soup with vinaigrette dizzle and broccoli pasta. Hello? Scrumptious!) Keep them coming!

  38. what if you are not on facebook, can you still vote??? i am another totally anti-fb person...

  39. Of course we voted for Chop Chop. I have spent the summer making your peachy peach jam and you berry jam, but I can't get wild grapes in Colorado, so we would love to win a jar. If I do, I will send you a jar of my jam made from ymmy Colorado peaches. I swear you won't even get botulism.

"Is it disturbing that I have to click that "allow access to all my personal information and private memories" button?" Why yes, it is disturbing, but I did it for you. Thanks for the chuckle.

  47. Wild Grape Jam, yum! That's fine material for bribery. Do I get extra points for remembering to vote yesterday after getting a *bone graft in my upper jaw*?

  50. Voted again. I'll keep voting if you keep posting! (I'd vote anyway, but a new post helps me to remember).

  51. Yay! I voted for Birdy...wait, I mean Chop Chop. And you're right, some of those other programs look pretty amazing. The Dinner Garden one seemed so virtuous. But you know, I use Chop Chop, while I can go to the garden store and buy my own $1.50 worth of dinner garden seeds without having to get on a silly waiting list.

I voted! And I will continue to vote! YOU, Catherine Newman, have inspired me to try and be even MORE healthy for my children, and myself and my husband, than I already thought I was! It's me, 2kidslife! You go, mama! (and in my opinion do NOT waste any energy on worrying about popularity contest type thing, you are working for an amazing cause!)
